So Kelpe, your mix has just landed in the office and it’s quite a different sound to others we’ve had in from Fenchurch Domesters, what/who are your influences?
Well, I guess a lot of people on the mix I made for you are an inspiration to me – people that keep electronic music in the hip hop variety fresh. In case there’s no tracklist some of those folks are Bullion, Mike Slott, Fulgeance, Loops Haunt and that kinda stuff.
Your Bloc set is surrounded by gigs in Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amsterdam, do you have a big following in the Netherlands?
I’m not sure what’s going on there – it seems to shift in phases where I get gigs. At one point it was France but now it seems to be Holland (and sometimes Lithuania). Maybe one day that place might be Britain, just maybe.
I see you’re getting in to the rag trade– get off our patch! :) No but really are you aiming to make a Kelpe empire?
Ah you mean the T-Shirts? I won’t be doing that again in a rush, all the sizes came back unexpectedly massive or titchy, and they are way harder to store than CDs or Records – I sometimes ended up ironing them before sending them out which is a bit time consuming.
Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Bloc?
It’s been a few years since I saw Flying Lotus play so would be good to see how that show has changed, and hopefully hear a lot of the new album. Will be great to see Autechre again at Bloc, as they were amazing last time, and also Loops Haunt.
Where do you go on a night off, favourite bar, restaurant or just your front room?
I can’t answer that question in case of stalkers! Just joking, the real reason is that I can’t think of a particular place. There are a lot of good pubs near where I live in Stoke Newington but each has its own faults and benefits, each will suit a specific mood or fancy.
Does fashion play a big part in your life? What is you’re fave piece of clothing at the moment?
Fashion doesn’t play a big part in my life really, my girlfriend just gives me clothes from Hennes and I wear them. Although I do like buying T-Shirts. My current favourite piece of clothing is a very brightly coloured jumper that makes me look like a Kid’s TV presenter.
