So Michael Forshaw – that’s a very sensible DJ name??
Yes, that’s deliberate, i wanted something mundane and easy for people to remember, my real name is Douglas Poindexter Boateng Formas and as you can imagine thats quite a mouthful, people mostly just call me Forshaw now so its even easier.
Tell us a little bit about your sound, who are your influences?
My earliest influences are Gary Numan, Depeche Mode and Soft Cell... all the synthpop stuff really, right now i’m loving Motor, Kanji Kinetic and Squire of Gothos and everything coming out on the Coin Operated label. DJ Funk has been a massive influence on me as has Kid 606. I should mention Frank de Wulf too, his ‘Rhythm Device - Acid Rock’ track is the tune that got me into techno.
Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Bloc?
I’m looking forward to Salt’n’Pepa, there’s so many great acts on... Model 500, P.A.S, Raffertie and Kanji Kinetic, Jerome Hill, Ben Pest, Lusinda, Bass Junkie and Dexorcist, Luke’s Anger, Al Tourettes and Neil Landstrumm... they’re the ones i really don’t want to miss.
Where do you go on a night off, favourite bar, restaurant or just your front room?
I’m working my way round the U.K. Travelodge’s just now... Crewe’s been the highlight so far... everyone should go there, its great.
The Ramada Inn’s are next on my to do list
Does fashion play a big part in your life? What is you’re fave piece of clothing at the moment?
I own loads of pairs of Adidas Superstars but i’m quite boring with my clothes, everything i own is black. I’m a frequent shopper in Primark so i’m hoping Fenchurch is going to style me up and add some much needed colour to my wardrobe ;)
